Triangles, Ruler and Compass
نویسنده
چکیده
A triangle can be specified by giving three independent geometric relationships defined between its elements. Usually, these relationships are distances between two vertices, angles between two sides, and heights. For each triangle specified by a set of three of such relationships, we present a procedure that constructs the triangle using ruler and compass alone. ∗While on leave in Computer Sciences Department, Purdue University. Triangles with a given special figure Daniela
A figure F is said to be special for a triangle T if F can be determined from T by a ruler and compass construction that does not depend on the order of vertices of T. In this paper, we deal with the problem of the existence of triangles with a given special figure that is a point, or a line, or a circle, or a triangle.
متن کاملGeometric Algebra: A Foundation of Elementary Geometry with possible Applications in Computer Algebra based Dynamic Geometry Systems
Geometric Algebra is a very general mathematical system providing simultaneously a geometrification of algebra, and also an algebrification of geometry. As an example, we present a specific Geometric Algebra, that we call Compass Ruler Algebra, which is very well suited to compute similar to working with compass and ruler. Geometric objects such as circles and lines as well as geometric operati...
متن کاملConic Construction of a Triangle from the Feet of Its Angle Bisectors
We study an extension of the problem of construction of a triangle from the feet of its internal angle bisectors. Given a triangle ABC, we give a conic construction of points P which are the incenter or excenters of their own anticevian triangles with respect to ABC. If the given triangle contains a right angle, a very simple ruler-and-compass construction is possible. We also examine the case ...
متن کاملGeometric Constraint Solving with Conic
Most mechanical CAD systems use line and circle(ruler and compass) as basic drawing tools. In this paper we introduce a class of new drawing tools: the conic. We proved that the class of diagrams within the drawing scope of this new tool is larger than that can be drawn with line and circle. Actually, we proved that a diagram can be drawn with conic if and only if this diagram can be described ...
متن کامل1. a 60° Angle Cannot Be Trisected by Ruler and Compass
§10.1. Number Fields and Field Extensions One of the classic non-constructability problems is that of trisecting an angle. Ruler and compass constructions exist for certain angles, such as 60, and constructions exist that approximately trisect any angle, but there are none that exactly trisect any angle. This is not an open question, waiting for some brilliant mathematician to solve it. It is ...
